The bouquet is characterized by dark fruits (blackcurrant and blackberry), with hints of pepper. In the mouth the wine is superbly nervous and full-bodied in mid-palate. The spices and black fruit linger. The finish reveals fine tannins with slightly saline mineral hints.
Roast duck, veal cutlet or hare. Venison, beef, rack of lamb.
Responsible farming. Care in the vineyard: Disbudding, rebiochage, selective thinning of leaves. Hand harvest.
20 to 30 days of fermentation on the skins after destemming and crushing in concrete tanks. Maturation for 16 months in barrels that have been used for wines from Bordeaux classified growths (Smith- Haut-Lafitte, Lafite-Rothschild, Pape Clément).
The position of Château Mas Neuf, half way up the southern flank of the Costières de Nîmes is very special. The exposure to the sun is similar to that found in the Languedoc or Provence, but the proximity of lagoons and the Mediterranean Sea allows it to take advantage of warm sea breezes drifting up from the sea. This unexpected coolness is a real singularity and is called by its passionate owner, Luc Baudet, the “Rhône paradox.” It also has good terroir and old vines, factors which have all facilitated lightning progress in less than a decade. ‘I want Mas Neuf to be known for great Rhône wines – not just great Costières de Nîmes wines,’ says Luc.
