Expressive nose of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. On the palate the wine is round, seductive and highly enjoyable.
Cold cuts, poultry, spicy food.
Sand and gravels.
Organic farming. The soil is worked, allowing the vineyard to find its own state of enherbement. Only natural, non-synthetic products are used when required. All viticultural work is done by hand. Hand harvest.
The fruit is destemmed and then dropped by gravity into concrete vats where the fermentation takes place with short daily pumping over. Ageing in concrete vats on lees for 7 months. Indigenous yeast. Little SO2 added.
Domaine de l’R was founded by Frédéric Sigonneau in 2007. He worked for a few years at the famed Domaine Baudry, his neighbor in Cravant near Chinon, then 2 years in Spain on biodynamicly-farmed ungrafted vineyards before coming back to his family estate. He farms his old vines (50 years on average) with a strict organic approach. The style is natural, focusing on the pure cabernet franc fruit with ample concentration due to low yields and attentive viticulture. His wines are full of bright, ripe and vibrant fruit. ‘R’ may come from ‘Reviens-y’ (Come back" to taste the wine again!).
