Made from 20 year old vines planted high on the steep limestone slopes of Saint-Romain. A wonderful expression of Saint-Romain. Tight, lean, linear, with an appetising, mineral finish.
The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux, which is matured partly in cement eggs and part in mostly used wood. It has an elegant bouquet with chalk, yellow flowers, dry granite and a touch of smoke--quite backward. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a "transparent" Chablis, stony and penetrating, very natural and refined with a healthy dash of white pepper that lingers on the finish.
