Made from 20 year old vines planted high on the steep limestone slopes of Saint-Romain. A wonderful expression of Saint-Romain. Tight, lean, linear, with an appetising, mineral finish.

The 2016 Saint-Véran Cuvée Unique is so-called because frost wiped out so much fruit that Guffens could not create his normal array of cuvees. Consequently there is only one cuvée in 2016 and even this has a total production of only 180 cases.
Matchstick, orange cream, white peach, pear, sappy and concentrated. Brisk acidity keeps the intensity balanced. Drinks way above the appellation. Beautiful wine.

The Pouilly-Fuisse CC contains the press wine from Guffens's top cuvées from the appellation—in addition to juice from the lieux-dits of Côte and Carmentrans, whose initials give it its name. It displays a generous bouquet of pear, barley sugar, lychee and mandarin. It is a full-bodied, fleshy and ample wine that's broad and textural, and which displays a lot of energy.

The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux, which is matured partly in cement eggs and part in mostly used wood. It has an elegant bouquet with chalk, yellow flowers, dry granite and a touch of smoke--quite backward. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a "transparent" Chablis, stony and penetrating, very natural and refined with a healthy dash of white pepper that lingers on the finish.

Iodine, mineral and floral nose. Onctious, oily textured, buttery style of Meursault. But this weight is balanced by some saline minerality. It is medium-bodied rather than a weighty monster.

This is very unique, with a vibrant, solid middle palate; the finish is medium in length. Japanese pear, almond cookies, honey, acacia and white tea notes. The palate is almost tropical, with mineral undertones. Drinking quite well, there is no reason to wait.

The 2011 Brand VV delivers the typical rich apricot, mango, honey melon and tangerine tones combined with beeswax and subtle lemon curd. There are some minerals to be found, given a good hour or so in the glass. Acidity is present and balanced. The palate follows through in the same classy way with a very nice integration, perfect structure and good length on the finish.

100% Grenache Blanc. Golden color, more yellow than usual at this young age. Rich on the palate, marks of pineapple and mandarin. Almonds, even marzipan, coupled with spices like white pepper and curry. Big, viscous with low acidity and full bodied, long finish. More a food wine that to be enjoyed by itself.

The wine is still discrete on both the nose and the palate. Apple and citrus notes followed by a saline finish . This is a wine of subtle beauty that requires some attention fully to appreciate at this stage. Great balance. Really authentic Puligny in character but as yet in a minor key playing at low volume. Today requires some focus but is truly beautiful.

Very fresh, oak wonderfully integrated. Great structure and texture. Wonderful, almost racy acidity. Deep and balanced. Now at its peak, but will stay there for at least 5+ years.

Powerful oxidized nose as to be expected with typical notes of curry and nuts, but fresh and delicate. On the palate, great balance with nuts dominating, great freshness and a salivating and long finish. It is drinking dangerously well...

Very rich and ripe apple, grapefruit, with some mint and buttered popcorn notes. Powerful start, followed by very mineral-driven middle through finish. Beautiful tart finish with a lingering aftertaste of citrus, pith, and some ginger. Very good weight and length.

Rich and dense with faint signs of evolution while still bright. Very layered and well textured, while still retaining plenty of fruit. Long complex finish.

The 2012 Saumur Brezé has a lovely clear, pure and complex bouquet exhibiting almost exploding tropical fruit flavors along with quince, honey, ripe and potted pears, ginger, green grape berries and a spicy touch of oak. Full-bodied, very intense and mouth-filling but also very clear, vibrant, straightforward and refreshing, this persistently salty, delicately racy and piquant Chenin finishes with a gentle touch of oak and reveals a great aging potential.

Foillard's 2017 Morgon Côte du Py is unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, red berries, grilled meats, rose petals and orange rind. It's medium to full-bodied, velvety and fleshy, with fine and powdery tannins, lively acids and a ripe core of fruit.

This is a serious and complicated bottle with a multi-dimensional presentation of dark fruits, spice, floral notes, scorched earth and minerals. There's something incredibly charming about the wine's honesty and gulpability.

Fantastic aroma of sweet black fruit compotes and fresh herbs like thyme and rosemary. Ripe, but not overly sweet on the palate with some stewed prunes as well as plum and blackberry notes, sous bois and Herbs de Provence as well. Perfectly mature and in a great spot. Lovers of ripe wines will love this.

Bouquet of beechwood and brambly stemmed fruit. Palate has medium tannins and lifted acidity with sour red cherries. Finishes long with nice purity of fruit. Absolute deliciousness, albeit still very young! The purity of fruit, structure, acidity, and balance are all in place. Deep and rich bing cherry fruit laced with Volnay terroir.

Cool nose of black cherry, spice and lavender aromas. There is excellent detail and even more energy to the middle weight flavors compared to the regular cuvée while the focused finish is well-balanced and impressively long.

Still relatively young tasting, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape accents lush red fruit with hints of leather and Asian five spice powder. It's full-bodied and velvety, ripe, plush and long, a completely delicious taste experience that culminates in a lick of salted licorice. Owners should count themselves lucky to have purchased some, as this still has a decade or more of life ahead of it. As Paul-Vincent Avril said, "2009 is still a baby—decant it if you can."

Black fruit, bramble, pepper, chimney smoke, iodine, game on the nose. Pure black fruit and spice on a midweight, racy palate. Coiled, but just beginning to reveal some layers. Well balanced between fruit and acid. Long, lifted finish.

Explosive nose of pinot, floral, sour cherry, magnificent, woody but seductive. Very nice fresh palate with opulent red fruits. Long finish with pencil lead, leather and tobacco. It's modern but really delicious.

The 2010 Cote Rotie La Mordoree offers an impressive dense ruby/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of bacon fat, black olives, black currants, raspberries, earth and forest floor. Ripe and medium-bodied with light to moderate tannin.

The classic 2011 Châteauneuf du Pape is a sexy, medium-bodied, sunny wine that’s loaded with notions of garrigue, kirsch, incense and fruit cake aromas and flavors. The long elevage, which are the MO at this estate, result in a stable, age-worthy wine, even in forward, charming vintages such as 2011. Still, don’t hesitate to enjoy this in its youth.

Jammy dark fruit, minty, dense structure but good floral elegance. Grippy on the palate with a spin. Overall quite A nice, darker version of Chambertin.

The wine has a lot of aged fruit on the palate, and less of the pepper, cigar, bacon, and smoke people are used to in Northern Rhone. Quite full bodied with rounded up tannins and the acidity still vibrant. Velvety mouthfeel with very ripe (but not jammy) fruit, luxurious oriental spice, smoked meat and sous bois. It really has that mature, fine wine kind of palate. The finish is long and lingering.

This cuvee includes some Clos Prieur 1er cru fruits and averages over 60 year old vines. Intense aromatic of meat spice, stem and florals.Very powerful and brooding, with great energy and balancing structure. Easily could pass for an great 1er cru with depth, black fruit, tarry/roasted notes. Drinking wonderfully but it will last another few years.

The 2003 Ermitage le Meal is tasting like a dry vintage port, yet with no sensation of heat or alcohol, it offers an insane bouquet of cassis, cracked pepper, violets, and mint that's literally overflowing the glass. Full-bodied, uber concentrated, voluptuous and still fresh and pure.

Precise and elegant, spices, blood and juicy fruits, bright tannins, beautifully balanced, youthful and stylish, excellent length.

Beautiful classic N Rhone Syrah, broad and satisfying with refined soft tannins. Lovely saline tang to add interest to the quite plush dark brambly notes. Lots of life left, no rush. In a very good spot right now.

Full, generous and rich nose of chocolate and coffee, dark fruit, smoky minerality and some bacon notes. Iron and blood.
This wine is medium-full body, generous and rich. The acidity is very enticing and blends well with the heavy extraction. Some slight grippy tannin. Very long finish.

The nose is really nice right from the start. Dark cherries and baking spices but also some lighter strawberry notes and charred wood. On the palate, complex layers of black cherries, tobacco and leather and a bit of earthiness. Great lush texture. Very long finish.

Some black currant, earth, slight stem spice on the nose. Slightly more red than dark fruit with good spice hints on the palate. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin. Good density and power, but nicely and elegantly styled.

Absolutely stunning. Bright, pure and balanced. Ripe berries, smoke, olive and floral notes. An iron fist, yet extremely elegant, almost Burgundian in style. This will age beautifully.

Bright deep lemon color, almost overpowering nose of botrytis, pineapple, mango, white chocolate and limes. On the palate huge and honeyed fruit, good firm oak and structure to balance, mandarin orange and brown sugar notes with time but still a very primary showing with an impressive sweetness. It is promising and will be quite enjoyable for many decades but certainly a great joy to drink now. If it does develop nuance then it will be a great wine with a richness akin to the 1986 and 1989.
