Tasting notes

Black fruits, earthy, wild herbs. Dense and concentrated, yet very lively. Silky tannins. It displays a somewhat stony and intense finish that is infectiously juicy. A wine of elegance and great balance.

BBQ meats, lamb, beef with wild mushrooms, strong cheese.

Bush pruning. Hand harvest in small cases.

Vinification

Grapes are fully destemmed. Fermentation and maceration for 3 weeks in concrete tanks. Ageing in tank for 6 months.

Winery Description

Jacques Montagne started the Clos del Rey in 2001. His grandparents were already making dry table wine from the family’s choice properties in Maury. His son Julien, who has worked for the Mas Amiel, joined him in 2015.

 The high-elevation vineyards southeast of the village, where much of their fruit grows, preserves freshness and warded off dehydration but produce enough juice to make wine.
This particularity combine to the wine making process of Montagne’s family make hight quality wines every year.
The Clos del Rey turns out fantastic wines that are rich, fine, concentrated yet are not overdone. The balance is always there.

Terroir 
All the plots are naturally protected by the guarrigue (made of thym, rosemarie and cistes). The soil is composed of clay and limestone with lot of iron at 300m altitude.

Grapes
the syrah is 15 years old, the grenache and carignan are 50 years old and some are 120 years old
