Tasting notes
It has aromas of cocoa, prunes, dried fruit and coffee. On the palate, you're surprised by its finesse and low sugar content. The finish is long and surprising! All the aromas remain on the palate without being disturbed by its sweetness.
Terroir
La Masia comes from an old Grenache noir vineyard located on asouth-facing slope in the heart of the Coume del Rey.
The solar orientation of this vineyard has given it the nickname of 'soleilla' plot.
This terroir of black schistous marl is ideal for the maturity of the Grenache and to produce dense Maury wines, full of black fruits.

Mutage on grapes.
Aged for 12monthsin concrete tanks then bottled.

Winery Description
Jacques Montagne started the Clos del Rey in 2001. His grandparents were already making dry table wine from the family’s choice properties in Maury. His son Julien, who has worked for the Mas Amiel, joined him in 2015.
The high-elevation vineyards southeast of the village, where much of their fruit grows, preserves freshness and warded off dehydration but produce enough juice to make wine.
This particularity combine to the wine making process of Montagne’s family make hight quality wines every year.
The Clos del Rey turns out fantastic wines that are rich, fine, concentrated yet are not overdone. The balance is always there.
Terroir
All the plots are naturally protected by the guarrigue (made of thym, rosemarie and cistes). The soil is composed of clay and limestone with lot of iron at 300m altitude.
Grapes
the syrah is 15 years old, the grenache and carignan are 50 years old and some are 120 years old
