Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes

Very fine bubbles that create a silky, caressing sensation on the palate. Fruity aromas with intense mineral notes; floral notes and notes of small aromatic herbs mingle with the classic bread crust. A lively, vibrant, fresh, vertical, saline wine, with no compromise with sweetness and opulence

Pairing

Fish dishes, even raw, goes well with vegetable starters, elegant first courses and white meats

Production

Viticulture

Unique parcel, located in Combai di Miane, identified by map number 1106. Here the vines compete with a wide range of plants and flowers. Very old plants (average age 90 years)

Vinification

Worked completely by hand, in a sustainable manner. The grapes are harvested in buckets and placed in panniers, carried on the shoulders to the harvesting point at the top of the vineyard. Skin maceration for a few hours. Must placed in tanks, followed by first alcoholic fermentation and spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Bottling between March and April, after several months of storage. In the bottle, a second alcoholic fermentation starts, but not malolactic, the yeasts are deposited and remain in contact with the wine, releasing fine aromas and increasing complexity. It is not put on the market until October of the following year, is not degorged and the yeasts settle at the bottom of the bottle

Winery Description

The Balan company was founded in 1962 by a very young Sergio Balan, who thus put to good use the knowledge gained working with his father Giuseppe and his grandfather Jeremiah: both had various agricultural activities, but were known above all as, we would say today, specialized courtiers in the wine sector. During the First World War, Giuseppe, who left for the front, could not take care of the family business. At that time his wife Rosa Stella played a decisive role in the stability of work and the maintenance of relationships built by her husband.

Sergio began his activity in the garage of his house, which is still in front of the main company headquarters, in Sant'Ambrogio di Trebaseleghe, whose construction began in 1966. Since then Sergio Balan has gradually assembled structures, rows and connoisseurs to expand the company to transform it into the current reality, with two production sites, for a total of seventy hectares directly controlled and six thousand square meters of winemaking, refining, bottling, and marketing facilities. Also in this case the role of a woman, Attilia, Sergio's wife, was fundamental, and was the only shoulder on which he could count at the beginning of his activity.

Since the end of the eighties the Balan group has launched itself into the business of distributing great Italian and foreign wines. This new activity has joined the production, which has never ceased to give excellent results both in terms of numbers and quality.

The work of four generations, the continuous effort towards innovation, the synergy between production and marketing, agreements with prestigious partners and, more than anything else, an inexhaustible passion for wine, have made Balan one of the protagonists of this world in Italy.
