Tasting notes
Impressive black cherry flavors with hints of garrigue and licorice. Full-bodied, silky mouthfeel, pleasant taste. The finish is long, rich with fruit and saltiness, and you can feel the depth and umami of the Mourvèdre. It goes well with all kinds of meat dishes, such as beef stewed in red wine, venison, and lamb, as well as slightly chilled grilled fish dishes and dishes with fresh herbs. Bottled without clarification and filtration from grapes with an average age of 40 years.

Winery Description
Domaine St. Damien’s cuvées of Gigondas has become the reference for classic full-bodied yet fine Gigondas, with scores by all journalists being both consistent and high every vintage. Almost as popular as their high-scoring Giogondas cuvees, are their Côtes-du-Rhône bottlings for their intense concentration and tremendous value.
This 40 ha family estate was established in 1821. In 2013 Damien SAUREL joined his father, Joël SAUREL after his oenologie studies. Damien is now the 4th generation to produce Gigondas with 50 years old vines.
Deeply attached to his land, Joël SAUREL believes that the terroir is the only one who can decide how the wine is going to taste. In 1996 the estate start responsible farming program and got his organic certification in 2012.
Note
St. Damien was an early Christian saint (martyred in the year 287 A.D.), considered the patron saint of doctors. There was a chapel to his honor in the tiny hamlet of La Baumette, just outside the village of Gigondas, where Joel Saurel lives. M. Saurel’s predecessor took the name Saint Damien for the domaine in 1979.
